convert mercedes W123 to electric

I’d like to convert my 240d biodiesel to electric using tesla or bolt motor, batteries, charge controller, etc. Some of the hurdles I foresee will be an adapter between the motor and the drivetrain, DC-DC conversion for the 12v accessories, a new 12v heater, needed gauges, and other details. Wondering if ifixit is headed down that road of converting ice (internal combustion engine) vehicles to electric so I can glean from your experience.

@robbmoss that is a very sensible question yet a very, very ambitious project. I am convinced that it would be possible yet not very economical as even a basic VW beetle conversion kit goes for something ~20K $USD and still requires a lot of work and fabrication. Not that it could not be done, just check on here Even so I like the idea, I am not sure if projects like that would not be out of iFixit’s realm.

@robbmoss the question got moved from iFixit Meta to this Answers area . So not sure who from the iFixit team is going to monitor it. We, as the frequent users in Answers, are mere volunteers and not familiar what the iFixit plans are with that.

I'll guess we just have to create our own conversion site :-)
