My Frigidaire freezer no cooling

My Frigidare upright freezer #lffu14f5hwj not cooling. I put freon in @2psi. Replaced defrost sensor . Compressor runs all the time and very hot to the touch. Control board works with up and down temp. Also will cut unit on and off. Could this be the thermosistor? What ohms should it read? Please help,. Warm regards,. Rom

Hi,

How cold is the evaporator unit getting?

par

Evaporator coil has not cooled at all. No change with unit on or off.

@Ronald Lee

There is a problem in the sealed system somewhere.

Either the compressor is not pumping the refrigerant through the system, a blockage somewhere in the system or there is insufficient refrigerant gas due to a leak.

Why did you add Freon? Have you measured the high and low pressures in the sealed system to see what is happening? Are the condenser coils getting hot?

Sometimes you can detect if there is a leak due to an oily residue on the condenser coils or on or around the compressor unit. There is a special oil mixed in with the refrigerant which is used to lubricate the compressor and if there is a leak then the refrigerant gas will escape undetected but the oil may leave a trace. This is not always but still worth a look.

Thanks jayeff for your reply. The condenser coils are encased on the back of the freezer. They are not cool or warm to the outside touch. Why is my compressor very hot to the touch and never stops? I do not have gages to check highs and lows. I have no cold air at all. Could the thermosistor be at fault. Many thanks,. Ronnie

No sign of any leak at all

@Ronald Lee

The thermistor will only stop or start the compressor (via the control board) once the temps are cold enough or if it warms up.

If the compressor is running all the time and the temps aren't even cold then you will have to get the proper equipment to measure the pressures in the sealed system to know whether it is a compressor problem (not pumping) or a lack of refrigerant.

Depending on your location you may need a licensed repairer as where I am you're not allowed to even buy refrigerant without a license due to the environmental regulations regarding the handling of refrigerant gases.

Usually you have to cut into the sealed system to connect valves so that the equipment can be connected etc to measure the pressures but your model may already have them

Thanks Jayeff. I put freon in system to check if that was the problem. Gages hold a 2psi but still compressor runs continuously and very hot. I will try to get gages. I checked compressor with olm meter as noted on YouTube and it checked good. Thanks again
