Can I upgrade to a multi touch trackpad

can i upgrade my mid 2009 macbook to have a multitouch trackpad by replacing the keyboard/trackpad panel with a panel from a 2010 mac.

The short answer is no. A 2009 macbook (non-unibody) lacks the necessary software components to support multitouch.

That being said, it may be possible to hack this capability, but not without the aid of some external files.

You can't do it that way, but there is a way.

You can fit a trackpad from the early 2008 non unibody MBP to a white macbook non-unibody. But it's messy work, and the trackpad is silver.

yes it works just fine upgrade to 10.7.5.

Buy a separate multi-touch trackpad or one of those multi-touch mice apple has. I keep messing up that name so I won't type it :D

If you have the skills one could simply try to use the separate trackpad using the usb connection and mount it where the old trackpad was, obviously connecting it from the inside. Not sure how one would go about that, but it's too much of a hassle if you ask me :D
