place a flashlight on the screen at a sharp angle are you able to see the faint image of the menu's? If you do your backlight logic needs repairs that could be either the logic board backlight power circuit, the cable connection to the panel or the panel.

i have the ipod nano classic 160gb

@lvtrkrgurl78 maybe an iPod Classic 160GB which would make it a 6th gen iPod Classic. No Nano with 160GB. Take a look at the back case, on the bottom. You should see an "AXXXX" let us know what that number is.

lvtrkrgurl78 A1238 is a iPod Classic 7th gen. The issue with your iPod is the backlight. It is possible that it failed on the display end. so I would start with replacing that. The problem you might be running into is that the backlight coil or filter on the logic board may have failed. that means it wont produce a backlight. There are no schematics etc. available for these iPods. WE would need some really good pictures of your logic board. Hopefully we can identify bad components etc. You would also need a multimeter and the ability to solder very small components on some circuit board.

Start with a new display and see what that shows you.
