A1286 won't turn on - black screen

A1286 won't turn on - black screen, have reset SMC, power light on

MacBook Pro A1286. Removable battery and hard drive.

  • Battery charges fine. LED indicators show charge level. Power adaptor shows orange when charging, green when charged.
  • When turning on, power LED lights up, the chime can be heard, but nothing on the screen (no flashes, etc.). Keyboard backlight does not light up; caps lock key does not light up when pressed.

What I've tried:

  • Have reset SMC with and without taking the battery out first; charging cable responds with green light
  • Have tried holding Command-Option-P-R startup as suggested in another thread

Have plugged a HDMI cable in to a TV, but nothing shows

Can anyone have some solutions thanks.

Sadly, your logic board has an issue. You'll need to pull the board to inspect both sides MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2009 Logic Board Replacement. You might be able to see a burn't component. Compare your logic board to the images here. If you see something take a picture or two and post it here for us to see Ajout d'images à une question existante

Hi, thanks for you're replay, I've checked the logic board as you advised me to do but it looks fine and clean no brunt damage on it and I even washed in the ultra sonic wave machine to remove the water damage but nothing helps.I even tried all of the solutions and nothing helps.

@rampage47 - Water damaged? Thats not good you may just need to bite the bullet and get a replacement logic board, look online for the following part numbers per the given version of board:

∙ 2.66 GHz -661-5212

∙ 2.8 GHz - 661-5213

∙ 3.06 GHz - 661-5214
