Hi,
Check that the latest Brother MFC-490C drivers applicable to the OS (select laptop's OS version), are installed in the MacPro laptop and not that it is using the generic Mac OS printer drivers.

Thank you for your response, jayeff. I downloaded the drivers from the Brother website, specific to my machine, and I still get a yellow box with "NO CONNECTION" when I push scan button. My printer sits right next to my wifi router and prints from my laptop and has good wifi connection other than to scan. It scanned for years and for no known reason to me, stopped scanning from printer to MacPro laptop.

Can you scan OK using the printer's control panel?
What is the model number of the laptop and what OS version is installed?
My Mac knowledge is limited so I'll tag @oldturkey03 and check if they may know
Mary Vaughn have you tried to reset your Network? does your printer show up at all? Turn off both the printer and the router for 2 minutes. Then turn them back on and see if you can scan. Did it ever work or is this a new error?
