Reassembling causing problems with audio and IPD adjustment

I've been following the guide to replace an eyepiece, and I've been able to get the system to boot and display. Unfortunately, I'm now not getting any audio, and trying to make any IPD adjustments doesn't show the IPD measurement in the system, and more concerningly the physical slider will only move them further apart, and not back together--I have to manually move the eyepieces with my hand to get them to get back closer together again.

I discovered half the problem. I had not properly attached the eye tubes back to the guide rod.

I'm still not getting any audio, however.
