Hi,

Most probably low quality AA batteries.

Try using either a single use (non rechargeable) Lithium AA battery or a single use Alkaline AA battery and not the cheaper carbon zinc type AA batteries.

The NiCd and NiMh AA batteries whilst being rechargeable (which is a more cost effective option) may not work in the mouse due to having a lower voltage i.e. 1.2V as opposed to the usual 1.5V for an AA sized battery.

Hi Abhishek,

There are several things that can cause excessive battery drain on a wireless mouse.

Interference with the wireless signal can cause the mouse to have to boost its signal strength in order to maintain communications, which will require more power from the battery. Check for any wireless devices placed close to your work area that could interfere; that may include cordless phones, WiFi routers/repeaters or other wireless devices such as a keyboard attached to the computer. Move or shut off devices one at a time and see if that helps.

Dust or dirt in the optical path of the mouse's laser can cause it to have to boost the laser output and use up batteries faster. Clean the laser lens and make sure the area you mouse on is dust free.

Also, a dark surface like black or dark blue will cause the battery to drain faster than a light colored surface, so if possible try switching out your mousepad or whatever you use the mouse on.

Of course, check the battery connections for any kind of corrosion or rust; those things will increase the resistance between the battery and the mouse and cause it to drain faster. If you find some, clean it thoroughly.

That's all that comes to mind; hopefully one of these will help. Good luck and let us know what you find!

Hi ,

Thank you for your answer. Is it possible to have a short-circuit inside the mouse leading to more battery drainage? If so what can be the possible solution?

par

@Abhishek Dey, yes, of course it's possible, but unless the mouse has been opened up for some reason, I would put that at the bottom of the list of possibilities and save pursuing that until other approaches have been checked, as it's not very likely.

My keyboard is also wireless. They share a ubc. The keyboard does not work without activating the mouse. My equipment is is the same room as my router. My desktop is brown, I can fix that my using a piece of white paper. An alkaline battery in the mouse lasts about 3 hours. Do you have any further suggestions other than returning it?

@peg73597

What is the make and model number of the keyboard/mouse?

Have you checked/replaced the keyboard batteries?
