MacBook external display issues

So, I have a MacBook without a screen. I just got my usb-c adapter today exited to see it function after years and, oh well. Nothing. Just an Apple logo on the external display. I have no idea what’s wrong, I can’t seem to do anything. Also the touchbar doesn’t work so command+F1 will not work.

Where is the internal display? MacBook Pro’s are designed to use the internal display as it’s primary display. You really can’t use it in this way.

Even if the display is not working put it back on and test this again.

I have seen a lot of people doing it, so i said to myself that i might try it out. The other display didn't work and a repair was too expensive for me.

@nicolas36573 - Yes, I’ve seen a few of these so called headless MacBook Pro’s. I’m sorry someone who by chance got it to work without realizing why and then not understand this series SMC will go into CPU Safe Mode when the sensors data is lost.

Basically, the fans ramp up and the CPUs clocking is lowered in an effort to save the system from heat damage.

There’s a bit more here but that is the two major issues which you can’t bypass.

So if you put the display back on fully connected, then using another keyboard and mouse/trackpad connected via USB or Bluetooth, you should be able to use the external display. As long as nothing else is broken.

Hey, Thank you for the feedback. I have tried SMC reset, and sure enough, it worked like a charm. Booted straight up and now runs smoothly.
