Why my speakers stopped working?

Hi. I bought a used Macbook Pro M1 2020 used one, apparently in very good condition and great battery and all. After 1 week of usage the speakers stopped working, but Headphones jack is working fine, I tried to clean it up and but no luck. Tried all other troubleshooting steps, even opened it up and reconnected the flex cables but nothing happened. Before speakers stopped working there was very little crackling sound coming sometimes. So should I get speakers replacement?

Sounds like the Audio board needs replacing. Review Apples service guide here 13” MacBook Pro M1.

Hey Dan, the tech guy called he says some audio section is not working meaning the audio signal is not reaching to the speakers, and he mentioned they'd need to do some "programming" that will format the macbook. Is it right? Please help

@alichaudhary - Something is odd here… The speakers and headset socket are analog signals, not digital!

There is no programming other than the volume and balance controls which alters the DAC logics output to the speakers which you can control via the sound preferences settings.

Think of it this way… Your Stereo system outputs are analog to its speakers, the amp offers the controls. Some expensive speakers offer a tuning bridge to bias the bass and treble the speaker unit offers. This is all analog circuits.

Apple often mixes functions. This cable offers the headset jack and within it there is a set of switches which moves the analog output between the headset jack and the speakers.

Thanks for your response Dan. So I will tell them not to format/reset my Macbook, correct? They will replace the audio board and hopefully that will bring back the sound, otherwise speakers could faulty, yes?

@alichaudhary - A single speaker I could see or both speakers where blown by over driving them.

The volume level and the deep beats in some music can kill your speakers! This is often what people encounter with their stereos when they try to fill a large space for an event with home systems.

So did you push your system too hard? Then I could see the speakers dying! More likely the switch within the socket got messed up. I’ve see a lot more switches failing than speakers.

They don’t need to wipe your drive or alter the OS. If they do you will loose what was on your system. Apps and your data! Unless you backup and have been good about it.
