Have you considered reinstalling the OS and switching to an SSD for faster read/writing speed?

par

@dinoo_fixit - That’s a strong possibility but not the first thing I would do.

@danj Right, but maybe after fixing this issue, replacing the ten years old 7200 rpm HDD with an SSD and increasing the RAM wouldn't be a bad idea

@dinoo_fixit - I don’t disagree! The core issue is likely something else.

@danj You're right

I would run the onboard diagnostics to see if something is not working correctly. Your system will go into CPU Safe mode which reduces the systems CPU clocking to a crawl!

To get to diags restart your system and press the D key on your keyboard at startup. Here’s a good reference Mac startup key combinations

@maximmotyka - That sucks! Thank you Apple! 😖🤬😖🤬

Did you try the online version as well? I hate winging it! Let’s assume the drive is just badly fragmented, then defragging the drive would be what I would do. But before you do that make sure you have a good backup!

I would get this product as I find it’s one of the better ones! Drive Genius it’s what I use.
