Dryer is 2.5 years old. Vent and filter are clear of lint. I have checked fuse, high limit thermometer, cycle thermometer, and heating element for continuity. The thermistor has proper resistance. The moisture sensors also are good. However, no heat!

Just verifying that you ran a diagnostic test cycle and there were no error codes, is this correct?
If you didn't, then here's the tech sheet for the dryer.
Activate the service mode as shown on p.2 and check if there's any codes in the Fault History.
If none, run the service diagnostics and check what it shows.
Hopefully a start.

Would you have the tech sheet for the matching washer MVW7230HW?
Now the washer also is acting up - very loud squeaking during a regular wash (nothing bulky, unbalanced).
Perhaps diagnostics turn up something on the washer. I will run the dryer diagnostics as well, thank you.
The two machines are 2.5 yrs into service, in a newer home with two adults only. Very surprised to experience sudden problems, so soon after purchase.

@jayeff Thanks - it was worth a shot. Dryer: no fault codes, ran diagnostic (no heat, steam step pooled up as water, no new error codes triggered). Continuity tests all checked out again, thermistor has resistance. No ACU error code, checked the outlet for 240. Everything seems okay, but alas no heat.
(Washer: had a fault code for large load / imbalance; last load was not unusual but will check leveling on machine - very bad squeak during wash.)
Regarding the dryer No Heat problem, you may have to prove the continuity of the wiring in the heater circuit as shown by the diagram o p.21.
A bit hard through the control unit and the motor switches but the full wiring diagram on p.22 may help as it shows the terminals and wire colours.
If there's continuity between each of the components and as you've tested the major ones e.g. heater element, inlet thermistor and thermal cut off, then it's either the control board or the motor centrifugal switch
With regards to the washer unbalance problem, it shouldn't happen with a newish machine but check if the suspension rods are OK and not loose etc.
These stabilize the tub during agitate and spin action.
It may be that with a heavy load that it places more stress on the rods. just a thought.
The supplier linked was only and example. If the rods are faulty search online using the "manufacturer's part number" to find suppliers that suit you best.
