Have you tried connecting it to an external display? See if you get a normal video output that way.

I attached an external LCD using HDMI but nothing showed up

Open the base and remove the bios battery from inside of the laptop. Make sure main battery is unplugged too, and just leave both disconnected overnight. Re-connect and try again next day. If using Pro version of windows and have Bitlocker enabled, make sure you have your recovery key to hand.

Hi @kingsleych86979

Since there's no display on the external monitor either it may be that the laptop is not even starting and passing POST (power on self test).

Did you try a reset as suggested as you didn't say?

If it still doesn't work after doing this, sometimes a full power reset may be required. Be aware that doing this means that you have to disassemble the laptop.

Here’s the procedure:

Disconnect the charger from the laptop.

Remove the main battery from the laptop.

Remove the RTC coin cell battery from the motherboard.

Here’s the maintenance and service guide for the laptop. Go to p.33 & p.63 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the main battery and the RTC battery, respectively. When the RTC battery is removed, measure its voltage. If it is <2.4V DC replace it or if it is >5 years old replace it anyway. Search online for 826388-001 or check what th ebattery type is as shown on the battery itself. It looks like it may be a CR2032.

Reinsert the RTC coin cell battery, re-assemble the laptop, re-insert the main battery, connect the charger to the laptop and try to start it.

If it starts, there may be a message about the date and time being incorrect. This is normal as the above procedure has reset the BIOS back to its factory defaults. Once the date and time have been adjusted, the message won't appear the next time the laptop is started. Any user defined BIOS settings that have been altered by you to suit your particular requirements will need to be changed back also.

@kingsleych86979 try a reset first and see if it makes a difference.

  • Disconnect everything connected to your computer
  • Disconnect the AC power supply and remove the battery.
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds.
  • After that connect the AC power but not the battery. Then restart your computer.

Let us know if this made a different. If so, you know the issue is somewhere in the software.

You have not told us what you have checked. The no video issue can be related to a bad backlight inverter circuitry. A simple check for that would be to darken the room and turn the computer. Then use a flashlight and angle the light at the screen on different areas. If you make out shapes or can see part of your desktop, it is your backlight that has failed. Could be the backlight array in the LCD but could also be the connector, or motherboard components.

It could also be a bad LCD. Attach an external monitor and see if that displays anything. If it does, you know you have a bad LCD and need to replace it.

The only other thing that comes to mind right now is a potential issue with the computer not finding an OS due to a failed HDD or BIOS issue which do not allow the computer to boot into an OS, but we need to rule the first few things out. Narrow it down and let us know what you find out.

You can download the maintenance and service guide for your computer from here
