GPS location missing in pictures

Since I updated the firmware of my Nikon COOLPIX S9700 to version V1.3, I no longer get GPS locations in my pictures. With the previous firmware version it still worked.

Is this a known problem? Is there a solution to solve this issue?

Did you try asking Nikon, whether online, chat, email or live support?

@friedbertw37828 you did not tell us if you followed the instructions from Nikon and if you updated the GPS Firmware as well.

I wrote that I updated the firmware to V1.3. The GPS module is updated with it. And I do not know how to do this without following these instructions.

Still I will try the firmware update again, probably it will fail because V1.3 is already installed.

If the GPS it is still not working, try a power refresh and check if that resolves the problem.

Turn off the camera, remove the battery and then press and hold the camera's Power on/off button for a full 30 seconds and then release it.

Reinsert the battery and turn on the camera and check.

Are you writing this recommendation from your own experience with the Nikon COOLPIX S9700 or are these just blanket general answers that you can always place with questions like this?

About the history: I have been using the S9700 for many years, meanwhile a second camera. I have performed the firmware update to V1.3 on both cameras - according to the cited instructions. With the first camera, the update is now several years ago, with the second now about 6 months. In the meantime, I have switched the camera on/off several times, removed the battery, ...

Nevertheless, both cameras show the same behavior: since the update to V1.3, the GPS positions are no longer saved.

It may be a "general" fix but surprisingly a lot of the times it works when software is involved.

There's no harm done in trying as it only takes a minute.

Removing the battery and removing the battery and then holding the power button operated are two different actions.

By holding the power button operated for 30 seconds all the power is dissipated from the motherboard as the device is forced to turn on but obviously it can't, whereas this may not happen nearly as quickly if the battery is just removed and then replaced shortly afterwards.

1.3 was supposed to have fixed issue on the previous firmware with the location coordinates etc. I wonder if Nikon did “fix” it by eliminating it from the new firmware. We need to find out if others that use it are having the same issues. You verified all of your cameras settings etc?
