Help on L/R buttons not bouncing back.

Hi Everyone, so I'm struggling with my 8bitdo pro 2 wireless controller since my R1 button doesn't bounce back or have that "clicky" feeling when pressed. The button still works when pressed though but I'd like to have that "clicky" feeling to be restored just like my L1 button.

Hi, I’m sorry to hear that your R1 button is not working properly. This can be a common problem with 8bitdo controllers, and there are a few possible causes and solutions.

One cause could be that the conductive rubber under the R1 button is worn out or damaged. This is the part that makes contact with the circuit board and registers the button press. If this is the case, you may need to replace the conductive rubber with a new one. You can buy replacement conductive rubbers from 8bitdo’s official website1 or from other online retailers. To replace the conductive rubber, you will need to open up your controller and carefully remove the old one and insert the new one. You can find a guide on how to do this on Reddit2.

Another cause could be that the plastic pin that holds the R1 button in place is broken or loose. This is the part that creates the hinge for the button and allows it to bounce back. If this is the case, you may need to glue the pin back to the button or replace the button entirely. You can buy replacement buttons from 8bitdo’s official website3 or from other online retailers. To replace the button, you will need to open up your controller and carefully remove the old one and insert the new one. You can find a guide on how to do this on Reddit4.

A third cause could be that there is some dirt or debris stuck under the R1 button that prevents it from bouncing back. This can happen if you spill something on your controller or use it in a dusty environment. If this is the case, you may need to clean your controller and remove any dirt or debris under the R1 button. You can use a soft cloth, a cotton swab, or compressed air to gently clean your controller. You can find a guide on how to do this on Gamers Wiki5.

Before you try any of these solutions, make sure you back up your controller settings using 8bitdo’s Ultimate Software6. This will help you restore your controller’s configuration if anything goes wrong. Also, make sure you have the right tools and skills to open up your controller and replace any parts. If you are not confident or comfortable doing this, you may want to contact 8bitdo’s customer service or a professional repair service for help.

I hope this helps you fix your R1 button problem. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me. 😊

If it were me, I’d spray a bunch of electrical “contact cleaner” around the button while pressing (with it powered off) it repeatedly. I keep a can or two of that around all the time. It dissolves grease and grime and evaporates quickly.

It that quick fix doesn’t work, you’ll have to disassemble and clean it out with a foam swab and that electric cleaner. Best of luck.
