My usb a ports don’t work, what should I do?

As of about six months I think I fried my USB A ports trying to recharge something with an open cable. Everything else works in the laptop, even the USB c port that is nearby. Can I somehow replace it ?

Hi @martinamaya

Check if it is a software problem first.

Go to Device Manager → Universal Serial Bus Controllers → click on the > (or +) symbol to the left of the category to expand the list → right click on a USB Root Hub entry → Properties → Power Management and check if the option which states "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" has been enabled. If so disable the setting → OK .

Do the above for all the USB Root Hub entries listed as I don't know which Root Hub belongs to which port.

Once this is done restart the laptop in the normal manner and check if the USB ports now work.

To get to Device manager in Win10/11 press the Win key and the x key (both together) and click on the Device Manager link in the options menu box that appears

If the setting was already disabled and if there is no power on the both of the USB A ports then it may not be the port that is the problem but something is wrong with the USB +5V power supply on the motherboard.

Click on the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 icon to the right of your question and scroll down the page to find the schematics and board view files for the motherboard
