I have a old PS3 Fat and it hass missing the hard drive. It switches on but it does not show any image on my screen (checked both video ouputs). I was wondering if it has a problem with the video chip or the lack of the hard drive that is causing no signal. Any ideas?

It needs the HDD to read data on what it's supposed to show on the screen, and how to navigate the main UI. The HDD stores all of the device's knowledge, and without it your PS3 doesn't have a clue how to display different things or even how to do anything other than stay on. You'll need to put a new HDD in.
