Touch ID not working, long button press needed to boot up

Hello y'all,

I own a MacBook Air 2019 with the Intel processor.

However, whenever I try to turn on my laptop I have to press the power button for a 10 seconds or so.

If I close my laptop without turning it off, I can't turn it on again and I have to manually shutdown and start via the power button. If I work on something and I close my laptop screen it won't be saved.

Touch ID doesn't work either.

Sometimes the keyboard backlight doesn't light up but that isn't the main issue.

Sometimes when I turn it on again I get this panic log: https://pastebin.com/DBcNQhY6

panic(cpu 1 caller 0xfffffff00d6982a8): "i2c1::_runInterruptMode Timed out waiting for interrupt;
Panicked task 0xffffffdf00545ff0: 0 pages, 200 threads: pid 0: kernel_task

Thanks for your help!

P.S.: I had to replace the audio board once, because it kept crashing. But I don't think that could cause the issue.

Update (05/01/24)

i also checked the ssd with drivedx, not sure if its crucial but it seems to be alright. see https://imgur.com/a/JkbQ1h1

How about installing this gem of an app CoconutBattery and posting a snapshot of the apps main window here so we can see things.

From the sounds of it you have at least two issues! The systems battery and/or charging logic is not able to support enough power to suspend so your data gets lost.

The TouchID function may need to be setup again as it could be corrupted.

Panic's are not a good sign! 😖 You maybe hitting a storage space issue in your SSD.

@renax - your battery looks in reasonable shape. As far as the drive I’m wondering if the drive is just overly full. Go to About this Mac and look at storage, let’s get a snap of the use bar.

The Panic call is an IRQ event without an ACK. Something is still missing.

@danj https://imgur.com/a/VEi3Z1E storage looks fine, not much left (around 43gb) but probably enough

@renax - I would run Disk Utility from either the OS recovery Or via an external bootable drive. But do make a full backup before yo do.

That doesn’t address the kernel panics and needing to hold the button down for a long time to start it.

With your Panic log "CORE 1 is the one that panicked. Check the full backtrace for details." I think the Logic Board had got fault.
