CPU/GPU fan replacement advice requested

In my laptop ZBook 15 G6, one of the fans starts making noise, rattles. (expected L30894-001 or L30895-001) The laptop is now almost 4 years old and this seems to be a known issue.

Does anybody have an idea how 'difficult' this exchange of both fans could be?

In terms of experience, I'm used to work with fine mechanical parts and not a total newbie in electronics. I also have an ESD bracelet and some small tools.

Thanks in advance!

HP Zbook 15 G6 disassembly instructions by HP can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7392w2ta...

I'm indecisive yet to do this myself or get help.

Hi @frank31876

Even better is the maintenance and service guide for the laptop.

Go to p.53 to view the procedure to remove/replace the fans.

According to the parts list on p.21 Items #14 & #15 the fan part numbers are either L68840-001 or L68841-001 depending on which GPU is installed.

Hi Jayjeff,

What puzzles me in the documentation is that the parts: L68840-001 or L68841-001 is choosing between the GPU's where the left hand side fan (14), as mentioned on page 53, is for the CPU.

Assuming the fan in the left (14) is for the CPU, and the fan at the right (15) is for the GPU. With the selection criteria provided of 2 different GPU's I'd expect 3 different numbers.

1st: CPU side

2nd & 3rd: GPU side, 2 choices

In the meantime, it will be solved a bit differently.

Since this is a company laptop, HP has been requested for a quotation.

Regards from the Netherlands,

Easiest way to know for sure is to open the laptop and check what part numbers are on the fans themselves. Usually the part numbers are printed on them
