How to change battery

Consumer Cellular tells me that the battery is not replaceable. Has anyone disassembled one of these tablets apart to see if that is really true?

Oh it's absolutely replaceable. No matter what Consumer Cellular says. But as far as I can tell this isn't a repair anyone is endeavoring. Most tablets are not designed for easy repair. And I expect it might be tricky to find a replacement part (an exact one anyway).

I wasn't able to find any videos or documentation on how to take this apart but I imagine it will be very similar to most tablets. Either housing is held together with plastic clips, or everything is stuck together with adhesive. If it was made by Asus though, it may be based on some other hardware and just has a custom loaded OS (or custom Android skin) on it instead of the more typical Android. Trying to poke around at Asus to see if I am finding something equivalent, but not having much luck.

Thanks for your reply. I wanted to correct one thing; it is not made by Asus. It is made by Acer. I had hoped that someone else had made this repair so I would know where to start with getting the Grandpad opened up. But that would still leave the problem of finding a new battery that fits. Thanks again for your help. I hope someone else replies with guidance on opening the tablet case.

Once you get it open, look for the battery model number which is printed on the battery itself.

Once you find it search online for the model number only to find suppliers that suit you best.

If there's no model number there may be the specifications printed on it e.g. Voltage and current (or wattage) information and dimensions.

The dimensions can be either a 6 or 7 digit number (depending on size) which is interpreted as follows:

!st 2 digits = depth (or height) of battery in mm with a decimal point that is NOT shown

2nd 2 digits = width of battery in mm

last 2 (or 3) digits = length of battery in mm

Example only might be 3.7V 5000mAH (or 18.5W) 407095 = 3.7V 5000mAH 4.0mm x 70mm x 95mm LiPo battery. Also check whether a 2 or 3 wire connection is used between the battery and the motherboard as some motherboards require that the battery has temp monitoring capability i.e. thermistor connected on 3rd wire in battery, whereas others mightn't.
