When it starts leaking or making noise. I'm not aware of any kind of recommended replacement interval like there is for timing belts or oil changes.

Update (03/13/25)

No problem, Kody. I don't know the details of your rig yet, but on my son's 1985 GMC High Sierra (K2500) with a 350 ci engine, it's a pretty straight-forward job. Once you have the belts out of the way it shouldn't take more than a half hour or so; add another half hour for the belt R&R and an hour should be enough time.

I meant the time frame to actually fix it not when to replace it my bad

Yeah sounds about right it’s a 98 but it’s also a 350 so I assume not much change besides maybe the water pump part itself but I believe they are in the same common area

@kodyarnold Yep, not that much difference in that area. If you've ever had to replace a water pump on these new models that use the timing belt to drive the pump, now there's a pain in the behind. I'd much rather have one out there sitting proudly on the front of the engine where you can actually get to it. On my son's truck I can climb on in the engine compartment to work on it.
