RHA AM750i headphone driver repair

Introduction

The AM750i is a top-notch in-ear headphone, handmade and made from excellent materials. Unfortunately the driver in the headphones come loose very easily which gives an annoying clicking noise. Luckely you can fix this by opening the plug and glueing the driver back to the casing. This guide shows you how to do this.

    • here you see the in-ear plugs of the RHA MA750i headphones. First take of the rubber hat.

    • Take the filter from the stainless steel casing, and put it aside on a save place. It is very small and easily lost.

    • To open up the stainless steel casing you have to heat up the two parts. In this case I used the iFixit iOpener, but you can also use a hairdryer.

    • Be causious when using a heat source.

    • The top casing with the cone form is pressed and glued to the back casing which is connected to the wires.

    • After a small wait for the glue to become soft, you have to use a wrench and a spudger to disconnect the two case parts.

    • The two parts are press-fitted so you need a lot of force to take them apart from each other.

    • Use a high torque to rotate the two parts relative to each other.

    • While rotating pull with low force. When you pull to hard you could break the internal wiring (which is very fragile)

    • slightly move the two parts from each other, use a spudger to complete the disconnection of these two parts.

    Be really careful not to rotate the two parts all the way around. You can end up breaking wires.

    • Take the two casing parts from each other, but, again, be aware of the internal wiring.

    • As you can see in the second picture the driver is disconnected from the top cone case.

    • The third picture shows how the driver should fit in the cone casing.

    • I use standard glue to connect the driver with the cone case. I used a skewer to spread the glue over the edges of the driver and the cone-case

    • Be aware that you don't spill glue over the drivers' components. This might break the functionality of the headphones.

    • After adding the glue press the driver into the cone case. It should fit in nicely. Wait for the glue to harden before you use them again.

    • After glueing the driver back to the cone case you can press fit the cone back on the back case.

    • Use glue to make it stick better. Press-fitting the two parts won't stick.

    On hindsight, you have to glue both cases together. They will open during use, and break the cables.

Conclusion

This fix is very much doable. Make sure you use a heating source like the iOpener or hairdryer to liquify the glue and don’t pull the cases by force only. Be aware of the heat.

The left driver of my RHA MA750i's was loose which caused a very unequal sound. I thought I would have to throw them away. But with the help of your guide I was able to fix them. Thank you!!

Be aware to not use any superglue as it might be too aggressive for the rubber in the cable.
