Acer Chromebook CP5-471-C0EX Troubleshooting

The monitor on your Acer Chromebook CP5-471-C0EX does not display anything.

Power the device off and back on. If the screen still does not display, then press the “power button” and the “restart button” (the fourth button from the top left of the keyboard) at the same time until the device powers down and restarts. Repeat this step until the device displays a blue screen upon restarting.

This can usually be fixed with a simple restart of the computer which is done by holding down “esc + reload + power button.” Doing so this way has the least likelihood of causing damage to your system. You can also perform a manual restart by powering the device off and back on again; however, there are possible adverse side effects to this method, including damage to the system.

First, check that the device is powered on by pressing the “power button” at the top right corner of the keyboard. If the screen still does not display or the device does not power on, it may be out of charge. Plug the device in to charge and attempt to power it on again.

You have trouble listening to sounds on your computer.

Volume is either too loud or too quiet.

Click on the taskbar in the bottom right corner of the screen. From there, try adjusting the volume using the slider. If you are using speakers or headphones, make sure the device is selected as the correct output device.

Make sure your headphones are securely plugged in. If you are unable to plug in your headphones, try another working pair of headphones. If issues persist, you may want to try turning off the laptop, plugging in your headphones, and then powering the laptop back on. This will allow the laptop to scan for audio devices. If after this step, you are still unable to connect your headphones, you may be dealing with a loose headphone jack.

Check to make sure sound drivers are up to date. Ensure that sound is enabled both through sound settings and via the sound function keys. Lastly, inspect the speaker holes for any debris that may be blocking the sound.

The laptop will not power up or show any signs of powering up.

Ensure that device is fully charged and that the charger is fully functional. Try performing a hard reset on the laptop. To do this, hold the “power button” down for 30 seconds.

Check if your charger is completely plugged in, both into the Chromebook and the wall. Unplug your laptop from the charger and the adapter from the wall. Plug in the AC adapter into the wall and laptop port, feeling the physical port to see if it may be loose. If the port feels loose, it may need to be replaced.

The trackpad on your laptop gets stuck, You are not able to easily glide fingers across.

Go to system settings and open the device settings tab, then open the trackpad settings. Changing the mousepad sensitivity may help with difficulty when trying to move the mouse

If problems still occur, the issue may be the drivers. To access the drivers, search for “Driver Manager” in the Start menu, and click the dropdown for “Mice and other pointing devices”, click on the touchpad to open its setting, and open the Driver tab, then click “Update Driver”. If after the drivers are updated you still experience issues, you may have to replace the trackpad.

While you are working, your computer randomly shuts off without notification.

Computers can overheat due to excessive dust and other materials stuck in the vents or fan. To fix this, use a compressed air duster to carefully blow the dust off the vents and fan. It may also be necessary to finish cleaning the blades of the fan with a cotton swab and alcohol solution. Be careful not to damage the delicate fan blade while applying the solution.

Your laptop may not have a good amount of contact between the heat sink and the processor. This is usually caused by a lack of thermal paste. To fix this, completely clean any old thermal paste off, then apply a bead of new thermal paste directly in the center of the processor. Gently push the heat sink back in place and tighten screws to lock down the heat sink.
