When the Altec Lansing Baby Boom XL is needing to be charged it won't charge even when it is plugged into a charging cable? Use this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose why.
Faulty Charging Cable
If the charging cable is defective, the speaker won't charge. The speaker will eventually die and won't accept a faulty charger.
- To make sure it is the charging cable, try plugging in the charger into different outlets and try different charging port cubes.
- If the device still won't charge, try plugging the charging cable into a different device that is compatible with the charger to check if the cord works with a different device.
Debris in Charging Port
If the charging port is dirty, the device might fail to charge properly.
- Turn off your device, clean the port using a cotton swab and alcohol, and gently wipe the port, removing any debris, and make sure to dampen, not soak, the port.
- Then use compressed air to finish cleaning out the port, and plug back in the charging cable.
Damaged Charging Port
Over time, you might press the charging cable too hard or move it around, causing it to bend, loosen, or go too far into the speaker itself.
- Use a flashlight to shine into the charging port and use a precision cleaning kit to touch it. If it moves because it is loose or bent, then it will need to be replaced or repaired.
Degraded Battery
Lithium batteries will naturally lose their charging capacity over time. If the battery is worn out, you will need to replace the battery or purchase a new speaker.
