The camera will not turn on

Pressing the power button doesn’t power on my camera.

The battery is not oriented properly

The camera may not be turning on because the battery was not inserted properly. Ensure that the arrows on the battery are inserted first with the metal contacts adjacent to the LCD screen. Follow our Battery Replacement Guide for instructions on how to replace the battery.

The battery is not charged

The camera may not be turning on because the battery is out of power. Plug the camera battery into the provided charger. Once the light turns green, reinsert the battery into camera with proper orientation.

An internal component is broken or disconnected

In extreme cases, the camera may not be working because internal components may have broken or may have become unplugged due to a fall or water damage. Follow the Motherboard Replacement Guide to gain access to the connectors. If a connector appears loose, then secure it in its housing and reassemble the camera to test to see if it works. If you have checked all the connections and the camera still will not turn on, you may need to replace the motherboard.

The buttons on the back don’t work

One or more of my camera’s back buttons are not working.

The button circuit board is broken

The buttons on the back may not be working because the circuit board that controls the buttons may be broken. Follow our Button Circuit Board Replacement Guide to access the circuit board for the back buttons and replace it.

The images are blurry

When I take a picture, the image appears blurry or distorted.

The lens is dirty

The image may be blurry because the lense has dirt or dust on it. Take a dry, soft cloth and gently wipe the front lens. Be careful to not press too hard on the lens, or you may scratch it.

The lens is scratched

If images are repeatedly blurred or distorted in the same area, and you have checked to make sure that the lens is clean, the camera lens may be scratched. First inspect the front lens glass and check for visual scratches. If scratches are present follow the Lens Replacement Guide.

The lens is not focusing

If the entire image is blurry because the lens will not focus properly, an internal component of the lens may be broken. In extreme cases, the lens may have internal components broken. Follow the Lens Replacement Guide to replace the lens.

The viewfinder is blurry

When I look through the viewfinder, the image is blurry.

The slide is out of focus

If the viewfinder picture is blurry, it may need to be adjusted. To the left of the viewfinder is a small dial. Rotate the dial up or down while looking through the viewfinder until a clear image appears.

The glass is dirty

A blurry view may be due to dust on the viewfinder. Take a soft, dry cloth and gently wipe the glass on the viewfinder. Be careful not to press to hard or you may scratch the viewfinder glass.

"No memory card" message is appearing

My memory card is in my camera, but I am getting a “No memory card” message.

The SD card slot is dirty

If the camera will not read the SD card, debris may have gotten in SD card slot. First check visually if there is any debris in the slot. If debris is present, carefully remove it. If no debris is present, gently blow into the slot to ensure that no dust is the blocking the connection. In addition, blow or lightly wipe the memory card connection points to ensure that no debris is on the SD card.

The SD card is defective

If the camera will not read the SD card after you have checked to make sure the slot is clean and free of debris, it is possible that the SD card is defective and no longer works. If you have a spare SD card that you know works, test it in the camera to verify that the issue is not a faulty SD card.

The round-options is not working properly. For example when I choose the C2 option it appears as a C1, or if I take the video option it will take HDR photos.

Any experience with where the backup battery is for the Canon Powershot G16?Everytime I start the camera it asks me to set the day and time. I’d love to replace the button cell battery but I haven’t been able to locate it easily yet.
