If your Dell Chromebook 13 3380 has keys that feel stuck, respond inconsistently, or do not register input—especially after liquid exposure or physical impact—follow this page for solutions.
Loose or Damaged Keyboard Ribbon Cable
A loose or damaged ribbon cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard can cause unresponsive keys.
Solution:
1. Power down the Chromebook and remove the bottom panel.
2. Locate the flat ribbon cable beneath the keyboard module.
3. Carefully disconnect and reseat the cable.
4. If damaged, replace the keyboard ribbon cable. See Dell’s official “Removing / Installing Keyboard” support pages.
Faulty Keyboard Assembly
If several keys or entire rows don’t work, the internal keyboard circuitry may be defective.
Solution:
Replace the entire keyboard assembly following the Keyboard Replacement Guide. Ensure the replacement part matches your Chromebook’s model number (13 3380).
Liquid or Debris Contamination
Spills or debris can block key contacts.
Solution:
1. Turn off the Chromebook immediately and remove the battery (if accessible).
2. Use compressed air to remove debris from under the affected keys.
3. For liquid spills, dry the keyboard completely before testing.
4. If corrosion or sticky residue remains, replacement is recommended.
