Computer Will Not Power On

The laptop is unresponsive to the power button and does not show any signs of powering up

Defective Adaptor

Ensure that the power adaptor is plugged into the wall and to the laptop fully, and see if the charge light is on. If the charge light is not on, then the power adaptor is defective, and you should purchase a replacement adaptor.

Defective Battery

Ensure that the power adaptor is plugged into the wall and the laptop fully, and see if the charge light is on. If the light is on, but the laptop does not stay on when unplugged regardless of time spent charging it, then the battery is defective. Use this guide for battery replacement.

Distorted Graphics/Excessive Graphical Lag

The display is flickering, colors aren’t correct, or there is graphical lag for videos or games.

Improper Resolution

Your device may be using a resolution other than the recommended one. Using your computer’s search feature and searching for ‘Resolution’ will bring up a window for adjusting it. 1920 x 1080 is Dell Inspiron 15-5577’s recommended resolution.

Outdated Driver

Your video driver may be outdated if videos flicker, colors are improper, or there is excessive graphical lag for videos or games. Dell's Website has the most recent drivers for the Dell Inspiron 15-5577.

Keyboard/Touchpad is not working

Parts or the entire keyboard or touchpad is not responsive

Keyboard keys are stuck or missing

If a keyboard key is stuck, it may mean that something is stuck underneath the key.

Touchpad is disabled

Your touchpad may be disabled. To enable it, open up the start menu and navigate to settings, then to devices. In the left pane window, click touchpad, and make sure it is enabled.

Touchpad is damaged

If your touchpad is still not working after you have made sure it is not disabled, you can do so using this guide.

Device fails to boot

The device gives an error message when you launch it and will not launch properly even after a restart.

Hard Drive Error

Even if your Hard Drive is not damaged, it may still need to be reinstalled using Windows system repair based on your version of windows.

Damaged Hard Drive

If your device is still having difficulties booting after you have attempted the windows system repair, you may need to replace the hard drive using this guide.

Device is overheating

The laptop is excessively warm, or the device randomly shuts off while you are working without notification.

Dust overload

If too much dust clogs up your laptop fan, it can overheat. Use a compressed air duster to blow any dust out of the fan or vents.

Blocked fan

If when you are using your laptop on a non-flat surface, the fan may be being blocked, which can cause the device to overheat. Make sure that the fan is unobstructed while your laptop is in use.

Fan not active when the device is on

If your laptop fan is not spinning while the device is on, the part may be broken and need to be replaced. Use this guide for laptop fan replacement.
