The mouse wheel does not respond to input or doesn’t register.

Attempt to plug in the mouse from a different USB port, the original port may have a hardware issue, or possibly be blocked by dirt and debris.

There is significant resistance when trying to scroll up or down.

Clean the scroll wheel area. First try using a compressed air duster to dislodge debris from the scroll wheel opening. If you don't have a compressed air duster you can achieve a similar effect by turning the mouse upside down and blowing into the scroll wheel opening with your mouth. If this doesn't get rid of the resistance, disassemble the mouse by removing the screws from the bottom of the mouse, removing the bottom cover, and taking out the scroll wheel. Thoroughly clean both the scroll wheel and the area that the scroll wheel slots into with a Q-tip and a small amount of isopropyl alcohol.

Clean the wheel itself with a Q-tip or tissue and isopropyl alcohol. If this doesn't get rid of the resistance, disassemble the mouse by removing the screws from the bottom of the mouse, removing the bottom cover, and taking out the scroll wheel. Thoroughly clean both the scroll wheel and the area that the scroll wheel slots into with a Q-tip and a small amount of isopropyl alcohol.

The scroll wheel feels like it is wobbling from side-to-side.

Each time the computer turns on or a particular session of use is paused, when the mouse is turned back on it doesn't save the settings configured to the programmable buttons.

Insert a Q-tip, toothpick, or plastic Dental floss pick into the USB port and carefully remove debris. Store-bought compressed air cans safely remove dust. To do this, hold the can upright at a short distance away and spray short spurts into the USB port.

Connect a different mouse to determine if the issue pertains to the computer or the mouse. If the mouse in use works, then the computer is not the issue. Or connect the mouse to a different computer. Ensure that the cable attaches firmly to the USB port to resolve errors in connection. If screen AND mouse froze, the issue most likely is a computer issue, possibly a malware (computer virus) or software issue.

The main sensor fails to light up and detect movement.

Clean the mouse pad of dust and debris. With a build-up of dirt and debris, the mouse sensor fails to register and move accordingly.

Mouse skates might be dirty, which increases friction and the mouse sensor needs space between the surface to operate smoothly.

Clean the mouse skates with household alcohol cleaner or soap along the edge of the skate. Use a small brush to scrub along the edge of the skate, clearing it of unwanted grime.
