Is your HP Chromebook 14 G4 screen not lighting up, but images are displayed? Use this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose why.
Reset Chromebook
Hard reset your Chromebook basically flushes its RAM and brings it back to the starting point to start all processes again.
- Locate the Refresh key and the power button on your Chromebook.
- Press them together.
- This should hard reset your Chromebook.
- Try turning it on.
Follow the next steps if the method does not resolve this issue.
Faulty Power Outlet
If your HP Chromebook isn't turning on, the cause could be something external and not your device.
- Check the outlet your power adapter is connected to and see whether it works.
If the other device works with the same outlet, the issue is different.
Remove Peripherals
If you have external devices such as a mouse, keyboard, or webcam connected to your Chromebook, they could be the cause of it not turning on.
- Locate the refresh key and power button on your Chromebook.
- This is because peripherals come with firmware, particularly gaming peripherals which have their designated software, that can interfere with the boot up process.
- Remove all external devices connected and try turning it on again.
If it works, you'll have to work without peripherals.
Battery Damage
Chromebook's battery could be dead or dying if it doesn't turn on even with constant power.
- Flip Chromebook over to see if you notice any bloating or spending.
- If you notice this, your battery needs a replacement.
You can use HP's technical expertise to replace or repair locally.
