The computer freezes while in use
The computer becomes stuck, ceases to respond to any user interaction, and might play a loud noise until turned off.
Internet connection is unstable
A weak internet connection is often the problem when it comes to computer performance. To check if internet connection is stable click the icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. This will tell you how strong a connection is and possibly determine what needs to be done to improve it.
If this is determined to be the problem then connect to a new wifi
Memory is full
When the memory is full your computer will start to slow down as it will take longer to process certain task. Go to the settings page and click storage there should be an icon or display of some sort that tells you what is using your storage
If this is determined to be the problem then delete unnecessary items and contents and/or reallocate storage
Computer overheats
When a computer overheats for safety reasons it will start to slow down or shut down entirely. To cool a laptop down you must take the bottom cover off and let the contents air out. While doing this inspect the individual parts of the laptop to see if they are clean, some contents might be covered in dust.
If this is determined to be the issue then you should probably inspect the fan to see if it is clean and functioning.
The computer is using too much memory
Trying to use more memory than physically possible for your computer can bog down its performance by a lot. Fix this problem by closing apps when they are not in use. Hold alt and tap tab to show all the programs running currently. Use the arrow keys to select a program and Q to quit it.
The hard drive is malfunctioning
The secondary storage, or hard drive, is where everything is saved in your computer. A program that is currently running could have paused the process in the storage system.
By holding down the power button for 5 to 7 seconds you should be able to shut the computer down. Wait about 10 to 20 seconds for the computer to fully shut down and press and hold the power button down for another 5 to 7 seconds and the computer should restart.
The battery drains too quickly
This is when the battery on your device is shorter, and is draining quicker. There are various ways that the battery can be draining, and a couple can be fixed with a few easy steps.
Too many programs are open
Hold alt and tap tab to show all the programs running currently. Use the arrow keys to select a program and Q to quit it.
You haven’t optimized your settings
Press the windows key and click the settings icon above it; in the search bar type “Power & sleep” and select it. Adjust these settings to your needs; if you need a longer battery life, set a lower sleep timer. You can also try adjusting your display brightness with the keyboard.
The front camera is malfunctioning
The integrated camera is not detected or shows black in applications you want to use it with.
Your computer’s drivers are obsolete
This is most often caused by outdated drivers. To update your drivers:
1. Press the Windows button and type "Device Manager" into the search bar. Open the application.
2. Under the Action menu in the top left, select "Scan for hardware changes."
If this doesn’t fix your problem, check the settings of the application with which you are trying to use the camera to ensure you have the right camera selected and check that program’s documentation for more help.
The computer isn’t turning on
The computer will not power on despite being plugged in.
The charger LED doesn’t turn on when you plug it in
To check if the charger is broken, plug it into multiple outlets and see if the LED turns on. If it does, the problem is not the charger, and something is wrong with your computer. If it doesn’t then you need to replace your charger.
The computer beeps, but does not turn on
Computers beep upon power up to indicate that there is a problem and even give you a clue as to what it is. Go to the HP BIOS Beep Guide (opens in new window) to disambiguate the problem.
Computer doesn’t play sound
my computer will not play sound from the speaker
If your computer doesn’t play sound have no worry the windows 10 program has a sound troubleshooting program that will fix any problem
1. In the bottom right corner there should be a speaker icon and when you click on it there will be a place to select the device you are troubleshooting
2. Once the diagnosis is complete anything wrong will be displayed on a pop up page. The program will fix the issues it finds
3. Then you can close it.
