What to do if you have replaced batter and when you plug firewall cable in the green power light comes on but only briefly before it goes off.

Flash doesn't work - it's not stuck. The flash pops up as it should, however it does not flash despite trying all flash settings. How do I fix this? I've tried resetting the camera to no avail.
