Is your Sony TCM–450 not doing anything when plugged in or after charging/battery replacement? Use this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose why.
Battery Issue
The battery indicator light will not light up.
- First you should ensure that the batteries are both correctly inserted into the device with the negative end facing away from you and the positive end facing towards you.
- If that does not resolve the issue, you should make sure the batteries are both fully charged or brand new. If both are completely dead the indicator light will still not light up.
If the batteries are fully charged and properly inserted into the device, or if you are not using batteries then the issue is likely with your power cable or the port.
If you are having trouble closing the battery cover or it is broken, please see our Sony TCM-450 Battery Cover Replacement Guide.
Faulty or Damaged Power Cable
The device is not turning on when plugged in.
- First check to see if the cable is plugged into a functional power outlet by trying a different outlet, if this doesn't resolve the issue then the issue lies with the cable or the port.
- If a different outlet doesn't resolve the issue, check your cable to see if its damaged, if you see damage then you need to replace your cable. If not, then try putting in fresh batteries to make sure the issue doesn't lie with the device itself.
If the power cable is functional and the device still works properly when using batteries, then the cause of the issue is likely the charging port.
Faulty Charging Port
The device is not turning on when plugged in.
- First, follow the above steps to test if there is an issue with the power cable.
- If your power cable is undamaged and functional, check the charging port for dust or debris. If the charging port is dirty, use a charging port brush or blow out the dust in the port.
- If cleaning the charging port does not work, inside the port to make sure that the connector pin inside the port is not broken. If it is broken, you will need to replace the charger port or use batteries to power the device instead.
If the charging port is functional and working, and the device still works when batteries are used, then the issue is likely with the power cable. If the device is working with the charging port, but not when batteries alone are used, then the issue is likely the batteries.
