HP Zbook 15u G2 Repair

The HP ZBook 15u G2 was the 2nd generation of the ZBook mobile workstation lineup, and first became available in 2014. It is an ultrabook design that focuses on being lightweight and durable, and is intended mainly for professional use such as video editing and rendering. It uses 5th generation Intel core i5 or i7 processors, 16GB of maximum RAM, and AMD FirePro 4170M graphics making it more suited to video and rendering work loads.

The ZBook 15u G2 had a starting price of $1,199. It was succeeded by the HP ZBook 15u G3 in November of 2015. The HP ZBook 15u G3 uses 6th generation Intel Core series processors while the HP ZBook 15u G2 uses the older 5th generation Intel Core series. The HP ZBook 15u G3 also has a Thunderbolt 3 port which is not present in the HP ZBook 15u G2.

The HP ZBook 15u G2 is identified by the “ZBook” name printed under the keyboard next to the left ctrl key, to the left of the touchpad. The Model “Zbook 15u” is also printed on the underside of the laptop in the bottom middle section next to the HP logo. The G2 model can be differentiated by its brushed metal like finish on the back of the screen, whereas the later G3 model has a more dotted or dimpled finish on the back of the screen.

The HP ZBook 15u G2 was available in a few different variants each with slightly different specifications regarding the CPU, RAM, and Storage drive.
