Low Disk Space Messages

Windows shows a "Low Disk Space" message.

The Hard Drive is at Capacity

Delete unused files to free space on your computer, or move some of your files to an external storage device such as a USB hard drive. Upgrading your computer’s hard drive to a larger capacity is also an option. Follow this guide to do so.

Battery is Not Charging or Holding a Charge

The laptop does not gain charge when plugged in.

Defective Power Cord or Adapter

If the device is not charging while plugged in, there could be a problem with the power cord. Make sure that the power cord is fully plugged into the outlet and ensure that it is not loose. Try several outlets to ensure that there is not a faulty problem. When looking at the laptop, if the device is plugged in but the charging light does not illuminate, then the power cord or adapter will need to be replaced.

The Battery is Exhausted

If the battery does not charge when the computer is plugged in, or it runs out of battery more quickly than it used to, the battery may be broken or failing. You can remove the battery and replace it using this guide.

Defective Motherboard

The computer’s motherboard may be malfunctioning causing the device to not charge correctly. Normally, when you press the power button to turn the computer on while the power adapter is plugged in, the power light should come on, and you should be able to hear the fan spin up on the underside of the computer. If the power lights do not come on, blink repeatedly, or the fans do not spin up, the device motherboard may be broken or defective, if the power adapter has been determined to be working.

The Wi-Fi Card is Not Connecting

Your computer will not connect to a wireless network, or the wireless connection quickly terminates.

The Computer's Wi-Fi has Been Turned Off

Check to see if the Wi-Fi on the laptop has been turned off. To do this, locate the Wi-Fi button. The Wi-Fi button looks like a radio tower and is located next to the mute button. Once located, toggle the button on and off. If your laptop is still unable to locate available Wi-Fi networks, follow this guide to replace the Wi-Fi card.

Wi-Fi Router has Been Turned Off

Ensure there are Wi-Fi networks available within the range of your device. To do this, locate your Wi-Fi router; make sure it is powered on. If the router is powered on but still not connecting to your computer, set another device, such as a smartphone, in its vicinity; if it connects, the router is indeed powered on. If not, it has been powered off and needs to be powered on.

The Computer's Wi-Fi Card is Defective

If your laptop is still unable to locate available Wi-Fi networks after attempting the above steps, the Wi-Fi card module inside the computer is broken or defective. Follow this guide to replace the Wi-Fi card.

Keyboard Not Responding

The computer's keyboard will not type, or it has missing keys.

Keys Are Stuck in Place

If there is a key stuck in place and it cannot be pressed, there may be something below the physical key causing it to get stuck. Remove the key, and use this guide for assistance. Once the key is removed, clean the mechanism underneath it with compressed air, then replace the key.

Keys are Missing

If keys on the keyboard are missing, replace them. Follow this guide to do so.

Constant Low Memory Messages

Your computer says that it is low on memory.

It can also help to add an SSD to allow your computer to cache commonly used programs in that flash memory to increase responsiveness if your RAM is nearing full utilization. Use this guide to install a SSD.

Device is Continuously Overheating

While you are working, your computer shuts off randomly without notification.

Dust Buildup in the Ventilation System

Ensure that your computer is powered off. Flip the device over to expose the ventilation slats. Blow compressed air into the ventilation system for several minutes. Wait for the device to cool down.

Heatsink Replacement

If the computer is still overheating after cleaning the ventilation, the fan may have to be replaced. To replace the fan, follow this guide.
