Background
Marshall (produced under license by Zound Industries, now Marshall Group) released the Emberton II in June 2022, succeeding the 2020 Emberton. Generational changes: the ingress rating rose from IPX7 to IP67 (adding dust protection), battery life extended from 20 to 30+ hours, Bluetooth moved to 5.1, and the speaker gained Marshall Bluetooth app support (EQ presets, firmware updates), True Stereophonic multidirectional sound, and Stack Mode, which links multiple Emberton II and Willen speakers to play in sync.
Audio comes from two 2 in (50.8 mm) full-range drivers and two passive radiators, driven by two 10 W Class D amplifiers. Like the original, the Emberton II has no microphone and no aux input; the only port is USB-C for charging (~3 hours full charge, with a 20-minute quick charge providing roughly 4 hours of playtime).
The Emberton II retails for $179.99 and is available in Black & Brass, Black & Steel, or Cream.
Identification
The Emberton II is a rounded rectangular body wrapped in textured silicone with a metal grille on both faces, the Marshall script logo on the front, and a brass-colored multidirectional control knob on top handling power, play/pause, track skipping, and volume; a battery LED gauge sits beside it.
Dimensions and weight (~160 × 68 × 76 mm, ~0.7 kg) are essentially unchanged across all three Emberton generations, so use these markers instead: versus the original Emberton, the II supports the Marshall app; versus the Emberton III, the II lacks a microphone opening and reports Bluetooth 5.1 rather than 5.3/LE Audio. The Marshall part number is printed on the regulatory label.
