Is an inactive Magic Mouse repairable?

Yesterday my Magic Mouse stopped working. I tried several new batteries and it still won't work. Can it be repaired?

When you turn it the mouse on does the green LED light up just above the on/off switch on the bottom.

There is no green light. I've tried 10 different sets of new batteries.

Thats a good sign ;-}

Try using a pencil eraser to clean the corrosion and/or non conductive film that has built up on the contacts.

A cotton swab slightly moist with white vinegar can also clean up any crust from your alkaline batteries. Be sure to wipe down the area afterwards with some cotton swabs moistened with straight water (not to wet) to clean off the vinegar afterwards.

Ta Da! Fixed it with the pencil eraser. Once I read the suggestion I looked, and could clearly see crud on the lower left terminal. Scrub scrub scrub - got my mouse back. Would never have thought that it could get like that, but it did. Thanks.

It worked (toothpick) !!

Thanks

I had to clean the contacts several times with a cue tip and then an eraser ..three times with the eraser .. and then it finally worked. Don't give up !

Changing from duracell batteries to energizer is the only difference in making the mouse I have work again.

I also discovered that I have some batteries with non-standard plus terminal heights. If the plus terminal heights are too short, they won’t work with the Magic Mouse.

I thought I'd post here for once, because my experience was different... I tried all the cleaning tricks after all the other battery troubleshooting, and still no green light. At all. Just quit, went dormant or something. I decided to delete the mouse from my Windows o/s, and just put the mouse aside; kind of clicked it and checked the light several times a day, nothing. Then, three DAYS later, I checked again and the green light came on, once. Baffled, I decided to re-pair to my o/s, clicked and clicked, and voila! It started working again. Perfectly. Perhaps it just needed a vacation! It's a very heavily used mouse, first generation Magic Mouse. Baffling.

If you use a nail file gently it should work. Make sure the contact point is smooth and cleaned off. I used the cotton swab at first with alcohol and it didn’t work.

I used 600 grit sandpaper and took my time. I had previously tried a pencil eraser (which is a known fix for cleaning the contacts of electronics) but it did t work this time.

Best not to use either as both can be a bit aggressive and can leave metal filings which could make things worse.

@danj Heh I'd try it if all else failed. Nothing to lose at that point.
