How can I install OS X on my new SSD?

My original hard drive took a poo and so I was told to buy a more reliable solid state hard drive. I bought one, but now and I have no idea what to do with it. I need a step by step on how to install my OS X Mountian Lion on the new hard drive. And if it's even possible to get pictures off of my old drive?

Please verify the machine you picked as this one had an SSD flash drive rather than a hard drive.

Did you ever figure a solution to this?

To get your Mac up and running again you can reinstall Mac OS via the internet recovery option.

First, turn off the Mac, then hold in the 'Command' and 'R' keys at the same time. Don't let go, it may take a few minutes. It'll boot up to a white screen and will eventually show a globe. After seeing it you can let go. It'll then load up the recovery menu. Choose "re-install" Mac os and it will download and install the OS.

Alternatively, you can create a bootable USB of your preferred Mac OS to install on your Macbook.

Here's an article on how to do so on a Mac. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372

I have the OS X Mountain Lion on a disc. Do I just put that in the disc drive and follow these directions? I'm sorry if that's a stupid question, I'm completely technology stupid! :/

You can't use an OS that is older than the system so No, you can't even use the Mountain Lion disk in this series if you have the system as spec'ed here "MacBook Pro 13" retina display Late 2012".

Maybe it's a mid 2012 then? I know I bought it with Mountain lion installed. I bought and downloaded mountain lion on a disc and don't know how to get my computer up and running again with the disc?
