thank you, Skippy, downloaded and fans are working, but where do you find the SMC control

MY GPU diode is 144 degrees, seems pretty hot and heat sink is 114, is there a place I can find what temps should be?

par

144 on the GPU diode is pretty normal... on my imac (2.66GHz C2D, Radeon HD2600) the GPU diode is 135 with an ambient 72... Just depends on the type of computer and the ambient air temp...

SMCfancontrol can be downloaded here -http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/23049/s...

On my imac, i run the fans at 2800rpms across all 3 which keeps the idle/web browing temps under 100 and my gaming temps (l4d2, portal, killing floor) under 130

Sorry I didn't link to SMCfancontrol in my other post...

Thank you again. I did download SMC fan control but it doesn't work. I get the icon but nothing happens when I hit it. So I cannot control the fan. Any tps?

I use iStat pro to check my fans. SMCfancontrol lets you adjust the speeds manually yourself

I've had to replace the fans on three of the 17" machines. All started with the left fan going out first. Failure included a very loud screeching noise at the end. On the first one I just replaced the left fan, then two weeks later the right fan failed. On the next two I torn the machines down to the heat sink, cleaned the vents which were about 70% blocked, replaced the thermal paste on the heat sink. That solved the problems and the machines have not been back in. Your Majesty,

Just now saw your note. Thank you. I downloaded SMC control again and found the controls. I have set the temp at 3000 as suggested though the fans are audible they are not distracting. I hope this doesn't cause earlier wear and tear on the fans.

Again thank you and problem solved.

Running them will cause them to where out a bit faster simply because they're spinning faster, but it's nothing to worry about really.
