MBP chimes but won't boot. Blank grey screen + unresponsive keys.

Yesterday I have bought a MiniDP-to-HDMI adapter for my MBP and decided to try it on my FullHD TV. I connected a mouse and a keyboard and closed the lid of the laptop so the screen was displayed only on the TV. After working for an hour, I decided to restart the laptop (with closed lid). After that, the laptop no longer boots.

At the moment, when I press the power button, it chimes and shows a blank gray screen. The hard drive and fan are spinning, CPU getting warm.

I can't reset SMC, PRAM, enter safe mode or anything else, as the keyboard is not responding. I determined this when I tried to press Caps Lock - indicator doesn't work. The external keyboard doesn't work either.

Also I tried to disconnect battery, HDD and RAM, but it didn’t help.

Thanks for any help and advice!

P.S. I apologize for any grammatical errors, English is not my first language.

Have you already tried booting with Mac plugged to your TV ?

Yes, but it doesn't work anyway.

UPD

When I close the lid immediately after pressing the button, the gray screen is displayed on the TV, and the laptop screen remains off.

Sadly I suspect the adapter was defective and damaged your system. The logic board will need repairs.

Lets check one more thing. using a flashlight shining in through the lid logo are you able to see anything on your desktop?

Hey Dan, thanks for your reply.

The screen backlight works fine, but I tried to use a flashlight anyway. Obviously, the screen is empty.

I wonder at what point the adapter could have damaged the logic board. The laptop worked fine until the reboot. I disconnected the adapter only a few minutes after the white screen appeared. Up to this point, I haven't touched either the adapter or the laptop itself.

It seems pretty much a graphic chip/PCH issue, it's happening more often lately on 2009/2010 MBPs. Not even worth cost wise attempting a repair nowadays in my opinion.
