Why is El Capitan not completing install from USB bootable drive?

Hi there!

I’m attempting to load El Capitan onto a MacBook Pro that was given to me. Currently, it has Windows 7 loaded and seems to be working properly; however, I am attempting to put MacOS back onto it.

I’ve created a bootable USB from another Mac computer using the method found here https://youtu.be/0HBA9Nov17Q

All things seem to go to plan as I select the USB drive after holding the Option key at startup until the loading screen and bar get to this point.

At this point, the bar will continue until it is completely full and then stop and never proceed to the next step.

I have set the internal clock in Windows to Oct. 2016 (as El Capitan releases Sept. 2015) as to not confuse the internal clock from being before the OS release.

Can someone advise me on what to do next or how to troubleshoot? Thanks so much in advance!

Sounds like you got the right idea back dating the clock. But, I don’t think doing it through Windows will work here as you can’t disable Internet time server access. So you can’t out run your systems effort to correct the settings!

Using your macOS installer drive you should be able to access the data & time control panel to alter it and disable the time server access.

A better option I think is getting a refreshed OS installer file so you don’t need to dicker with the clock settings at all!

First here the full details on what the issue is If you've got an old macOS install image, it will probably stop working today

Here’s the refreshed file Apple released: How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan Jump down to Step 4 clicking on the Blue URL link: Download OS X El Capitan.
