Battery won't charge but its at 30% and works unplugged

So my phone got water damaged, I turned it off immediately and dried it the best I can, It has now been 48 hours.

Everything on my phone works perfectly apart from the battery will not charge.

The battery isnt dead and the phone works whilst not plugged into the wall.

The battery doesn't discharge when plugged into the wall but it doesn't gain any charge either.

My phone turns itself on when the charger is plugged in, it didnt do this before it got wet.

The phone also works with the battery disconnected and with the phone plugged in to the wall.

There are no repair shops near me that repair my phone, but I am happy to do it myself.

I'm wondering whether I need to replace the charging port or the battery itself?

Thanks

Hi @albert4536 ,

You need to open the phone and clean it properly.

The water causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the phone's operating design and could damage the components. The corrosion starts immediately and is ongoing until it has been properly cleaned away.

First do not turn on your phone and then remove the battery as soon as possible from the phone to minimize any further damage.

Then you need to dis-assemble the rest of the phone and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available from electronics part stores) to remove all traces of corrosion and water. If possible do not use "rubbing alcohol" as in some cases this is <70% IPA, can contain additives and is not as effective. If you do have to use it check the label to verify the amount of IPA. The higher the percentage of IPA the better

Here is a link that describes the process. Electronics Water Damage

As always with electronics, especially surface mounted pcb, be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the board. You will also have to remove any shields that may be covering some components and check under them as well. Also any flex cable connections need to be disconnected and the cable ends and the connectors need to be cleaned as well.

Hopefully after you have done all this the phone might possibly work correctly again.

Here is a link to a teardown video for your phone, which may be of some help.

If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later as it’s not going to fix itself.
