Battery Not Charging After totally running down to 0%

17” MacBook Pro (Mid 2010). Replaced the battery a couple years back with an iFixit battery.

Recently redid my office setup and took everything out so unplugged everything. This machine is used to handle old HW like my 3D scanner, etc that isn’t supported by newer Macs and OSX’es. So not paying attention and this machine was up (albeit asleep) when I unplugged it.

Probably was 4-5 wks before I got around to setting this one up again. Hit power button…nothing…then plugged in and it came up. Battery shows 0% and Not Charging. Have done multiple SMC resets using all the different versions for this machine. Some with MagSafe IN, some with MagSafe out, no difference. Solid green on MagSafe and Not Charging for battery. System report for Power shows

Charge Information:

  •   Charge Remaining (mAh): 0
  •   Fully Charged: No
  •   Charging: No
  •   Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 14123

  Health Information:

  •   Cycle Count: 7
  •   Condition: Normal
  •   Battery Installed: Yes
  •   Amperage (mA): 0
  • Voltage (mV): 6024

Disconnected the battery and did an SMC reset and powered up with no battery. Then powered down, reconnected battery, did an SMC reset and powered up. Same green-only light from MagSafe connector.

Ideas? or have I made this machine unable to use battery any longer?

Appreciate any ideas that come along!!!

Here’s Coconut (attempt two)…

Update (10/08/2021)

So the story continues….replaced the logic board and now I can see battery and percentages again, but it’s not charging. I’m assuming that the previous issue did something to the battery itself and now it’s DOA?

Here a Coconut grab from this morning

Not quite enough info, let’s get a better view of things, install this gem of an app! CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here for us to see Ajout d'images à une question existante

You'll need drop a line to them to get the older version.

mmm... What is CoconutBattery telling you now, post a fresh capture so we can see.

OK, now your batteries micro-controller logic to SMC is not connected! Make sure the batteries cable is plugged in and the wires or connector are not damaged. Otherwise its time for a new battery too ;-{

Bingo! The charging logic is not working. Likely the MOSFETs burnt-out, you’ll need to find some one with the deeper skills and tools.
