Ive read that the port wont work with Micro port firmware version 1.2.1 which mine is is there a way i can get to install the right firmware to get this to work

I have tried this without success

Has anyone had experience with this and was able to fix it

Under About This Mac - Hardware Report your Thunderbolt port info should show: Firmware Version: 25.1

Thats what my 2012 15" MacBook Pro has.

Typically the OS installer will update the firmware when needed. But the order of upgrading your OS could be a factor as Apple sometimes messes up dropping the update in newer versions of installers. So I would first look at what it your current OS-X/macOS to see where you are.

So what are you running now?

MyTB Ports Micro Firmware is Version: 2.1.3

I think you've got a messed up logic board as the micro code gets into the display aspect.

Thanks Dan

Is there anything that can be done to fix it?

Thanks

@junkmanuk - There are people who repair logic boards, or you could see if you can find a replacement logic board as I'm sure the cost will be about the same and you'll likely be without your system for quite awhile.

As it turns out iFixit has the part MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Mid 2012) 2.3 GHz Logic Board in stock and here's the guide to put it in MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2012 Logic Board Replacement.

But before you make the jump do check locally if you can find someone who can fix your logic board.
