A week ago I ordered a used lcd screen which was graded A in quality. I noticed that the "black flat cables" was a little damaged but I didnt know if it would cause an issue so I went along and connected the screen anyways. Once I booted up the computer, the screen didnt turn on.. External display works fine though.. Any thoughts?

Like you said, it looks like the cable was severely damages, if not ripped. Unfortunately, this cable being ripped would make the new screen not function.

It's not "a little damaged". Similar damage on someone's neck results in a dead person.
The screen is dead, replace it.

Alright. Its a dissappointment that the cable is ripped since I paid a lot of money for this and it travelled all the way from USA to Sweden.. Hopefully the dealer will refund me but otherwise, is it possible to replace or repair just the cable for a fraction of the price that an lcd costs? I actually still has the previously broken screen laying around and the cables is fine on that one so perhaps it can act as a donor in some way?

@Ted Lindström It looks like that cable goes directly into the screen, so it doesn't seem like it can be replaced, not easily, and would most likely require soldering.

@Ted Lindström & @nicholas__kerns - Sadly these displays are a bear to open without damaging while some have managed to replace the backlight ribbon cables, the larger LCD cables are a very different story! These are fused to the LCD glass panel and not replaceable.

Replacing just the cable is possible but extremely difficult. Professional equipment, material and training required. It actually costs more for regular DIYers.
