Adapter + Western Digital Green 240 GB

I used an adapter of SSD for the Macbook Pro Retina 2012 A1398 and A1425 that bought from AliExpress plus the SSD of Western Digital Green 240 GB M.2 (2280) SATA 3 (6.0 Gb/s) but the macbook can't detect it????

Apple did their own thing! And in doing it created a lot of confusion. So let’s start up with a useful diagram

Here we can see three paths. The right most are M.2 the left is Legacy SATA. Which is what this system uses. Refer to this great guide! The Ultimate Guide to Apple’s Proprietary SSDs jump down to Generation Two for the full lowdown.

Hello! You'll have to upgrade to macOS Big Sur (11.7.4) or later for your laptop to install the EFI update needed for these adapters to work. Do you still have the original drive for this computer? If so, that'd be a relatively easy fix.

As long as I know, this macbook can only upgrade to the Catalina macOS

@armin1 Apologies! I meant catalina, forgot that that was the latest ver for these machines

@ezzgen - This is not a NVMe Drive'd system as such it doesn’t need an updated OS or firmware.

But it’s not a AHCI drive based system either! It’s an mSATA Drive’d system. Which is why this M.2 SSD won’t work.
