Hinges noise/ click from the top case and sticky bottom plate/topcase

Hello. I’ve had 2 warranty screen replacements and now I can hear such noise from the hinges. It mostly comes from the left hinge. I don’t think that it can be rubber because this noise won’t disappear when I open the lid few times in the row. The lid also seems a bid misaligned, you probably won’t notice it. AASP engineer couldn’t hear it in the office, even though it was quiet there.

When the lid was open for awhile (15-30 minutes) I can hear kind of noise (click) when I close the lid. This click comes from the left hinge.

When I turn on my MacBook after being turned off/in a sleep mode for awhile it makes tick noise from the topcase. The noise is still here when you turn off and turn on MacBook immediately, but it’s only noticeable when you put your ear close to the top case.

MacBook’s bottom plate makes sticky sound when I easily press it.

AASP basically doesn’t see my problems. Some AASP would say that it’s cosmetic or every MacBook has it. I don’t have any Apple Store in my country, so they can’t make a refund or replacement. I’m just a bit sensitive to such noises and they bother me. I’ve also read threads about similar issues and people in the comments say that they don’t have any issues.

I really don’t know what to do 🫤

Lots of sounds!

The first one is the magnets within the lid and case are grabbing. When you hold the lid slightly and let go you’ll hear that. Normal!

The second one is the hinge alignment or ribbon cable rubbing without having your system in front of me to hear it I can’t tell. This is one I would worry about as over time the wear could be an issue. I would get the AppleCar+ contract and maintain it.

The third is charging circuit changing state, a bit of emission is likely being picked up by your speakers. Nothing you can do to effect that again Normal.

@danj Thanks for your answer. Are the magnets located only on the left side of the lid? Because this noise more noticeable from the left hinge and click when I close the lid is coming from the left hinge. My MacBook’s lid is also weaker on the left side. I will try to explain. When I try to lift the lid for a bit from the left side it makes sticky sound and opens effortlessly, but on the right side it’s completely fine.

@danj I’ve just added video with bottom plate problem. I forgot to do it before.

@midnight77 - The magnets are glued around the lid circumference. Most are along the front edge. Given the fact you are squeezing makes me think they are coming unglued as you warp the case/lid parts. In truth that are stuck on with 3M adhesive which stays sticky.

Yes, it’s an annoyance! Get the AppleCare+ then give it a month and complain. This likely will require a new display assembly as Apple won’t dig into the display to refasten the magnets that are loose.
