Battery not charging to 100%

I just installed the battery and let it charge overnight. The battery has been stuck at 74% and doesn't reach any higher than that. The computer recognizes that it's connected to the charger as it shows that it's charging. Help please... anyone?

Sebastien, try calibrating the battery before you get too worried about anything. If your old battery was in bad shape, then the computer may still be working off the data it knows from that old information. In order to reset that data, go through the calibration procedure of basically charging the battery to 100% (or as high as it'll go) then using it until it dies completely. Do that like three times and that should allow the computer to relearn the battery's charge characteristics as they are now, rather than as they were with the old battery.

Here's a little more information on the subject.

Give that a try; I did the same thing on the MacBook Air my son gave me that had a bad battery and it reset everything after about three cycles and worked perfectly after that. If it's still not charging fully after that, come on back and we'll see what else we can figure out.

Check your charger and USB-C cable as often times people use the wrong ones for their system.

You might want to get an inline power meter like this one MakerHawk Type-C USB Power Meter

It can allow you to see more clearly what’s going on.

The charger and cable should be fine since they were charging the old battery just fine. It seems like it's an issue with the new battery... I may try getting the MakerHawk, but I'm not sure how it could help me.. I don't really know how to use it and I'm not sure if it would fix anything by using it.

@sebastienmesa - What is the charger? Is it an Apple unit or something else and what’s it’s Wattage?

There are a few different USB-C cable standards! The gage of the wires and the pinouts are all over the place! As well as the quantity.

Here’s a good reference: USB-C Cable Types and Differences
