Moving guts of a 2014 MacBook Air into a 2015 MacBook Air case/display

I have a 2015 13" MacBook Air in near pristine condition that doesn't boot and a 2014 13" MacBook Air that runs fine but has a damaged keyboard and display with degraded coating.

I'm thinking about moving the logic board and battery of the 2014 into the 2015 case. Is this doable? It looks like display and top cases available for purchase are the same for those years. If so, would I just follow the top case replacement guide?

I original planned on at least moving the keys over but the 2015 uses a slightly different butterfly mechanism than the 2014 so this has given me some concern about moving the logic board and battery from the 2014 into the 2015 case.

I haven't swapped these out personally, but I don't see anything here to get in the way. I don't see the keyboard being an issue as the keyboards are the same.

Be aware the blade SSD's are different in these two series, the 2014 offers a AHCI mSATA interface while the 2015 offers a PCIe/NVMe 3.0 x4 interface.

Thanks Dan! I started taking the pristine keyboard/display with the bad logic board (or maybe I/O?) apart and realized the camera cable is different. Then I checked the serial instead of the model number and realized it's a mid-2012 and not a 2015. And then I did the same on the one with the bad keyboard and case and it shows as a mid-2011. Sigh.

Maybe there's still parity there?

@joshnyc - Sadly there is too many differences and other limitations here to transfer the logic board.

How about just getting a new logic board so you can get the larger RAM and better SSD you already have. Review this guide for the parts info Remplacement de la carte mère du MacBook Air 13" début 2015
