Accessing Apple Cinema Display M8149 Control Boards

Introduction

This guide will show you how to gain access to the LCD Control Board and the Backlight Control Board on an Apple Cinema Display M8149. The tools required for this section are the spudger and the PH 2 screwdriver.

    • Before starting, make sure the display is UNPLUGGED. Failure to do so can result in shock and serious injury.

    • Place the Cinema Display so that it is lying on its face and the feet are pointed away from you.

    • Locate the three screws that connect the back foot to the hinge. Remove the three screws (9.52 x 4.43mm) using the Hex Key.

    • Remove the back foot from the hinge mount by grabbing the foot and pulling upwards.

    • Locate the eighteen (5.25 x 4.43 mm) screws around the edge of the backplate. Remove the screws using the Hex key.

    • Gently lift the backplate off of the display.

    • Completely remove the backplate and set it aside.

    • Locate the four screws (9.52 x 3.43 mm) on the outer rim of the metal cover. Remove the screws using a PH 2 screwdriver.

    • Next, unscrew the four cover screws (11.91 x 2.89 mm) located at the corners of the metal cover using the PH 2 screwdriver.

    • Located the large brown plug in the center-right, that connects the control board to the rest of the display and unplug it.

    • Locate on the right side of the control board the blue and gray plug and unplug it.

    • Locate on the left side of the control board the blue and gray plug and unplug it.

    • Locate the metal cover on the right. Gently lift the large metal cover which spans across the whole display.
