Laptop does not power on

Dell Inspiron 17-5748 will not turn on after pushing the power button.

Faulty Power Adapter

The laptop may be out of power. Plug in the power adapter and make sure the charge light comes on. If it does not, the power adapter may be faulty. Consider buying a new power adapter.

Faulty Battery

If the laptop only powers on when the adapter is plugged in, the battery might be faulty. Follow this guide to replace the battery.

Faulty Ram

If the laptop does not power on but gives two beeps, this refers to a memory error and the RAM needs to be replaced. Follow this guide to replace the RAM.

Windows Won't Boot

Dell Inspiron 17-5748 successfully powers on, but Windows does not boot.

Hard Drive Error

If no hard drive is recognized by the BIOS, there may be a connection error to the hard drive. Shut down the laptop and secure all connections to the hard drive. If Windows still does not boot when a hard drive is recognized, use a Windows recovery disk to repair the hard drive.

Laptop does not read CD's and DVD's

Faulty Optical Drive

If CD's and DVD's aren't being read by Windows or if the optical drive fails to open, it may be faulty. It may need to be replaced.

Keyboard/Keys Not Responding

Keys on Dell Inspiron 17-5748 keyboard won't respond.

Faulty Keyboard

If no keys are working on the keyboard, it is possible that the keyboard is faulty. Follow this guide to replace the keyboard.

Faulty Keys

If individual keys are not working, they might be stuck. Remove the individual key and clean underneath it. Snap the key back into place and test the key.

No Sound Coming from Laptop Speakers

Dell Inspiron 17-5748 speakers produce no audio.

Driver Error

It's possible that the speakers' drivers may have an error. First ensure that the speakers are properly selected. Go to the taskbar at the bottom of your display and right-click the volume icon. Click on playback devices and make sure that your laptop speakers are the default and test the speakers. If there is still no audio, update the drivers for the speakers.

Faulty Speakers

If the correct audio device is selected and the drivers are up to date, the internal speakers may be faulty. Followed this guide to replace the speakers.

When I put in a DVD and try to open it in my laptop’s built in DVD player it ejects and says please insert DVD - Windows will not read it so based on your advice I bought a new DVD player and the new one does the same thing - your advice just cost me $30. and I still don’t have a working DVD
